THE CANADIAN CLASSIC

5 DAYS/4 NIGHTS

 FOR ONLY $ 895.00

An Adventure Medley exploring the white wilderness of Wells Gray Park and area. Wells Gray Park, a vast, untamed and primitive wilderness exceeding 520,000 hectares in area offers an infinite variety of superb scenery. The Park is located 384 kilometers northeast of Vancouver in the Cariboo Mountains. In winter tremendous snowfalls and moderate temperatures create a fantastic winter wonderland and Helmcken Falls, the third highest waterfall in Canada, forms an enormous ice cone - an area well worth to visit. This multi activity package offers to our guests the major outdoor winter activities in Wells Gray Provincial Park and surrounding areas: dog sledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing & wildlife viewing.

For the four nights of accommodation we have chosen the Helmcken Falls Lodge (www.helmckenfalls.com ) located in the beautiful Upper Clearwater Valley and surrounded by the wilderness of Wells Gray Park. Here meals are provided starting with dinner the first day and ending with breakfast on departure day. Lunch usually consists of a packed lunch which we will enjoy on the trail. From the Inn or Lodge we will start our adventure excursions daily into the surrounding winter wonderland.

The well-trained Canadian Eskimo Dogs run in teams of two to four in double file, pulling toboggan sleds. We travel groomed trails and provide basic instructions in handling dog sleds and commanding a team. Everybody is mushing his own dog team and there is no dog sledding experience necessary but reasonably fit condition is recommended.

Program:

Day 01
Arrival at the Helmcken Falls Lodge, dinner at 7:00pm and overnight.

Day 02 - FULL DAY SNOWSHOEING, SIGHTSEEING & WILDLIFE VIEWING
After breakfast we first take a sightseeing tour into Wells Gray Park to visit Helmcken Falls, Canada’s third highest waterfall and view the fantastic ice cone forming at the lower part of the Falls each winter. Then we visit the frozen waters of Dawson Falls ( also called "Little Niagara") and drive the Corral Road to Herman Meadows Viewpoint for Moose watching. After lunch back at the Lodge we proceed to Flat Iron Trailhead here we will be instructed in the techniques of snowshoeing. An approx. 2,5 - 3 hour hike takes us through prime Moose habitat to Flat Iron Viewpoint overlooking impressive Hemp Creek Valley and Canyon lands. Dinner at the Lodge.

Day 03 - FULL DAY SNOWMOBILING
After a scrumptious breakfast buffet we drive our 4x4 vehicles which are pulling the trailers loaded with our machines to the trailhead in Clearwater (approx. 30 minutes). There we provide detailed instructions in operating a snowmobile and safety procedures. After everyone feels comfortable we will explore the endless trails and lakes of the Grizzly Mountain Plateau. Packed lunch en route at Grizzly Lake Cabin and dinner at the Lodge.

Day 04 - FULL DAY DOG SLEDDING
In the morning we visit our dog kennel, choose our teams and load them into our dog truck for the short 3 minute drive to the Wells Gray Guest Ranch. We set up the dogsleds and you will receive a detailed introduction into dog sledding techniques and how to communicate with sled dogs. After that the adventure begins and you will experience a few training rounds in the vast ranch fields. The terrain is flat and easy to ride, just right to get you acquainted with the sport of dog mushing. For lunch we drive back to the Lodge. In the afternoon we hitch up our dog teams again and mush through winter forest on our tipi camp trail and open area again on the Battle Creek Ranch fields. Dinner at the Lodge.

Day 05
Departure after breakfast.
